HEATWAVES Project Showcased at the 4th ESERA SIG4 Mini Conference in Valencia

The HEATWAVES project, a groundbreaking initiative co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, was highlighted at the 4th ESERA SIG4 Science | Environment | Health Mini Conference in Valencia. This event brought together experts to explore the intersection of science, environment, and health in education, offering an ideal platform to showcase the project’s achievements in climate education.

A presentation at the conference, inspired by the HEATWAVES project, focused on sustainability consciousness among pre-service primary school teachers. The session, attended by approximately 60 participants, was part of the “Round Table 1: Socio-scientific Issues” and sparked vibrant discussions on the role of education in fostering sustainable practices and awareness.

The research presented emphasized:

  • Objective: Measuring sustainability knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours among future educators to support educational strategies aligned with sustainable development.
  • Approach: Utilizing a robust survey tool, the Sustainability Consciousness Questionnaire (SCQ-L), with data collected from over 250 participants.
  • Findings: High reliability in the results highlighted areas for growth in sustainability education while showcasing the potential impact of integrating socio-scientific issues into teacher training programs.

The engaging content and methodology of the research were well-received, with attendees noting the relevance of the findings to global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.
