Embark on a journey toward climate resilience with Module III of the HEATWAVES training course. Building on the foundational knowledge gained in previous modules, this module offers a comprehensive exploration of strategies for responding to the challenges posed by heatwaves in urban environments.
Building urban climate resilience
Module III, titled “Climate Resilience – Responding to Heatwaves,” empowers participants to take proactive steps toward building climate resilience in their communities. From exploring the principles of urban planning and design to implementing practical measures for reducing the impact of heatwaves, participants will gain valuable insights into creating sustainable, resilient cities.
Key topics covered
- Urban planning and design strategies for climate resilience
- Incorporating green and blue spaces in urban environments
- Conscious material selection for heatwave mitigation
- Responding to heatwaves at the individual level
Interactive learning experiences with gamification features
Module III offers a range of interactive learning experiences, including informative videos, engaging activities, and self-assessment tests designed to deepen participants’ understanding of climate resilience strategies. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to explore the “Heatwave City game”, developed by partners, which gamifies the learning experience and allows for immersive exploration on mitigation of heat waves’ effects through urban planning.
Empowering communities for action
By completing Module III of the HEATWAVES training course, participants will be equipped with the tools and resources they need to champion climate resilience in their communities. Whether advocating for green infrastructure projects, promoting sustainable urban design practices, or implementing individual-level mitigation measures, participants will play a crucial role in building a more resilient future.
About the HEATWAVES Project:
HEATWAVES is a project co-financed by the Erasmus Programme of the European Commission, brought together five partners from four European countries (Belgium, Greece, Italy, Romania) with the goal of revolutionising climate education. The project aims to build a new climate education framework for online learning environments, create digital resources for students and teachers on heatwave awareness, develop immersive learning experiences through simulations and educational games, and disseminate key findings through scientific articles.
